Default 1994 940 shuts off while driving

I have encountered a recent problem where my 940 will cut off all power while driving. If i try and turn the key again, nothing happens. No turnover or anything. If i throw it into park, the shifter will lock in park and i can’t change into neutral or drive. If i wait awhile it’ll start up again no problems but shutoff while driving.

I'd start by checking/cleaning all connections at the battery. Some cars have a small red wire at the positive battery terminal that will be a problem if corroded/bad connection.

I had a somewhat similar problem with my '93 940 Turbo. Very unpredictable when it would happen. Turned out to be a bad Crank Position Sensor. Externally the wiring looked ok, but internally it was rotted and sometimes it would connect and other times it wouldn't. Cheap fix if that's your problem.

Forget that last comment. If it's not cranking it's not the crank sensor.

I believe it to be the ignition switch. I’ve changed it and drove around once so far and all seems well. I was also thinking the crank sensor but you narrowed it down for me.

Glad to hear you found the problem. But, if the crank sensor is the original I would replace it. They tend to rot from the inside and it could go out when you least expect it.

I just ordered one, it is the original. Do you happen to know if the crank sensor affects the RPM gauge? Sometimes my needle will fluctuate down to 0 or twitch a little bit, but the sound of my idle stays the same.

Not really sure about that. I good wiring diagram might tell? Off the top of my head it would.
