The wipers on my 94' 940 no longer work in intermittent mode, they make it about half way up the windshield and stop. They work fine however at the normal and fast speeds. When I switch them off from any of the modes they do not automatically park and I have to hold the lever down to get them back home.

From what I've been able to find online, I need to replace the wiper motor? Does this seem to be the issue?

Junkyards around here (RI) do not have many old Volvos but I'm finding used 940 wiper motors on ebay for about $40 and "Remanufactured" for $70 - 150.

I've found a few instructional threads on replacing the motor and it seems fairly straight forward. Thoughts?

 

well, odds are, IF you can take the motor apart, and clean and lube the cam actuated micro-switch inside, it will work again. but not all of them come apart non-destructively, and its also possible the motor is just plain totally worn out.

I've only replaced a 240 wiper motor myself, but I believe the 740/940 wiper is on the inside of the firewall, behind the dashboard, accessible by removing the glovebox.
