Exclamation 1994 Volvo 940 turbo--stalls while running

Hello, any insight on this problem would be much appreciated!

Over the past six months, my car has stalled on me six times or so (one of those months I was out of town and didn't drive; typically I only drive it 20 miles or less every few days). It seems to occur randomly--sometimes after hours of driving, mostly while on the freeway going 65-75 mph, and once while reversing out of a parking space.

I will be pushing the gas peddle, and then the car doesn't respond and starts to decelerate. After a few seconds, all of my dash lights go on and the car completely stalls.

I've taken it in to a mechanic a few times. The last time was a couple months back and the mechanic couldn't get the problem to occur after putting 25 miles on it, plus the computer wouldn't tell him what the problem was.

I also had my EGR sensor replaced within the last four months, which turned off check engine light, but that obviously wasn't the problem, since it's happened again after that.

Thank you.

my 850T had some random stalls - mostly on very hot days which I traced to the fuel pump relay. (theory is the relay overheats, pump pressure falls and car stalls. Restarts because that was just enough to cool and reset the relay... that's my theory at least. The true root cause could be the fuel pump is drawing too much current to begin with so that'd be another test to run.

Crankshaft Position Sensor, Fuel Injection Relay, in that order.

Thank you. After talking to my mechanic, I've ordered some parts. Might try to figure out how to replace fuel pump relay myself if I can.

the relay is behind the ashtray. remove the ashtray, also remove the cubby above it with the cigar lighter. you need to know which of three versions you have, bosch, very-late bosch, or regina.

but I would not order any parts without testing things. throwing new parts at an undiagnosed problem can cause new problems and complicate diagnosis.
