1995 940 Radio replacement cr-915
Hello,
I am changing my stock radio out of my 1995 945. Many of the 1995 940's came with a cass/radio combo model number CR-915. I checked at crutchfield and dialed up my model to get the wiring harness and the install face plate kit. I found new information that conflicts with the crutchfield recommendation.
My year and model had the internal amp in the radio. There isn't an amp under the steering wheel. The standard 940 crutchfield wiring harness is for the CR-814 model.
From my limited research I discovered that you need the 1995 850 wiring harness. When I look at the harness photos it does indeed match up with the plugs on my old radio.
What I can't find which crutchfield install kit and face plate is correct. It looks like the size of the 814 and the 915 are the same.
Any thoughts or info to help me nail down my purchase?
Thanks,
Roy

I use a AA cell to test the speaker wires before I connect them up... basically, touch both wires to a given speaker to the AA cell and the speaker should click or pop softly.
afaik a 95 940 should use the same radio mounting kit as any other 940. On my 92, the radio goes between the HVAC control panel and the cigar lighter/cubbie, and is a single high DIN... Actually, now that I think about it, I'm not sure I needed ANY mounting kit, I think my Alpine fit right in the factory slot as-is, so I just needed the harness. I tend to get that stuff from a 'good' family owned long time local car stereo store so I can eyeball it in the parking lot (and they give me great advice). My current 1992 745T, someone had hacked in a cheap stereo before me, so I didn't use a harness, I cut away their hack and did my own splices directly to the already-cut-off factory speaker wiring. I finally had acquired a good ratchet crimper, so I used inline crimps instead of my old school solder-and-shrink-wrap, and it worked great.

The Facia Plate should be the same.
The Install Kit, I personally don't use as I connect the original wires to the new radio's wires, snip/snip-splice/splice; a multimeter and some common sense and all works out well. Especially in a '95, which is a sort of a transitional year, the available aftermarket stuff is suspect.
