1st gear tranny shudder?
I finally got our 'new' 240 s/w on the road, OD works (soldered connections in relay) fixed DD exterior handle ( fabbed one out of 1/4" alum plate) got tags and insurance. I had not driven it on pavement yet when we drove it friday night to town. The tranny seems to have a shudder in 1st gear when both accelerating and decelerating. You can feel it shift and the shudder seems to be tied to the gear change. I checked the tranny fluid and it was at the correct level, it did have a very mild 'burned' smell. Any ideas? Is the tranny shot? are there pressure modulators and such that would cause this?

That first gear "shudder" may be engine mounts and/or U-joints that you would not be feeling at higher speeds/lower motor RPM's. Likely not U-Joints if it all goes away after first 15 MPH. But it can be motor mounts.
You down-shift into low? Don't unless you want this transmission to die soon.

I don't downshift, I just thought I could feel the tranny downshifting as the car slowed down to stop. maybe that's a lockup converter or maybe I'm just nuts.
I have not looked at the motor or tranny mounts, or the u joints. I will have to look at them today when the weather warms up a little.
