240 1992 GLT few issues related?
Hi,
I own a Volvo 240 GLT 1992 injection manual gear (milage about 160.000 KM)and noticed some issues, maybe related one to another, and hoping to have some ideas on how to improve the performance.
The engine seems not having much power when cold,
need to warm it up for about 15 minutes before it performs decently.
Fuel consumption is about 5 KM/L which seems a bit excessive to me.
When starting the air-con engine power is decreasing a lot, seems to be a bit strange for a 2.4 liters engine.
If I do not power on the car for a week or so the battery goes flat.
Few parts I have replaced in the last 2 years due to failures:
- Alternator - replaced with a second hand one
- Distributor
- Ignition coil - new from Bosh
- All electric cables linking ignition coil to distributor and sparks
- battery
- Injectors O-rings
Thanks,
Lore

Hi Bubba,
I'm not totally sure about the fuel injection type, it is not a turbo model,
or at least there was not turbine when I purchased the car.
How can identify the type of injection?
I'm just sure it is fuel injected because I have replaced the o-rings following a tip I found on this forum.
But truth being told some of the parts were not original, example alternator, distributor,
electric cables had to be replaced as it seems previuos owners played around quite a bit with spare parts....
Do you know where I can find a sort of handbook with the inventory of the original parts?
Thanks,
Lore

My guess is you have the Bosch LH 2.4 system. You should have a air mass meter between the throttle body and the air filter, that ends with the Bosch part number 016. If so, a good first step would be to check for trouble codes:

Hi,
thanks will look at it in the weekend.
I'm in Malaysia, bought the car second hand to move around, now I kind of like it and thinking to take some time and cash to fix it up.
Problem here is that mechanics are a kind of a rip off....
I think this 240GLT is a version made for the UK market, as you mentioned.
Another doubt I have is regarding the cables linking the distributor to the sparks.
The cable to the last cilinder looks too short to me, it crosses the top of the engine with no spare at all, looks stretched...I would not be surprise even if the sequence of the cables is not accurate....
Thanks again,
Lore
