Does the bulb failure warning light come on when you press the brakes? Or when you turn the headlights on?

when odd things like this arise (headlights come on when I hit the brake pedal) I'd start by looking for a loose or broken ground connection. Just to help a bit, a light bulb needs a hot wire and a ground connection in order to function. Sounds like the headlamp switch is working or you wouldn't have light under any condition. But if the ground connection for the headlamp circuit has been lifted during a recent repair or somehow is now open (broken wire in the wiring harness?) the headlamp won't light unless it can find another ground path - and that may be through the brakelamp circuit.

When you hit the brake pedal - are the headlamps at full brightness or do they seem a little dimmer than usual?

Charlie
