i have a 1991 volvo 240 dl automatic with OD.in the prosess of fixing my idle ,,ive taken the throttle cable off the wheel[for a better name] that the cable is attached to,,here in is one of my issues ,,there is a cable that looks just like the throttle cable that goes to the tranny ,, i cant seem to get it adjusted right it ,idles fine,, it up shifts from 1st to 2nd but will not shift to third? the OD IS working i have a hanes manual..no luck in finding what im needing,, any help will be GREATLY appreciated ,,Thank you in advance

that cable is often called the kickdown cable, but is more properly the transmission throttle control cable.

it should be adjusted so that with the throttle at idle, the little bead on it has about 1/8" of clearance outside the orange dust cap on the adjuster ferrule, and if you open the throttle wide open, just before you get to the floor you feel a 'notch' or 'cam' kind of engagement.

if this kickdown cable is too loose, the car will shift into taller gears too soon and not downshift when you give it gas, and if its too tight, it will stay in 1st too long and not shift to 2nd until you really rev it up.
