240 GL idle problem 1984
New Member Help!?
I have an older 240 1984 Sedan but in good condition
with 180,000.
Recently when I start the car (it starts easily) the car
runs rough when idleing. However when I do up to
any speed it runs fine. It kind of hiccups alittle and
the engine just feels like it is limbing along. I have done
the below>
1. Checked cylinder compression all good
2. Clean all sparkplugs and wires and checked all good
3. Clean rotor and distributer and checked wires all good
I think it is a timing problem that occurs in idle
Any suggestions> could it be my timing belt?

It sounds like it could be a sticking idle air control valve (idle motor), IAC. Check to see if it's dirty. They tend to get crudded up after a few years. It bypasses the throttle and it's purpose is to supply intake air when the throttle is closed (idle).
