Default 240 Heater blower does not shut off

The heater blower in a 1988 240 does change speed, but when you switch it off, it keeps blowing as if in the lowest setting. This is different than the other forum threads that I have found here.

Is a 1988 different than a 1990?
On my 1990 240DL wagon, when the blower speed **** is in the off position, the blower will spin on low if the AC is on.

our 87 is always on very low. was that way new, still is that way. the AC hasn't worked since circa 1992.

Thanks for the responses. I had two 240s before this: a 1986 and a 1992. Both extreme ends of the model series. And I was always able to turn off the blower. Why would a blower continue at the same speed from 1 to off?

ok, I'm looking at the wiring diagram for an 87/88 240. Seems the 'off' position is overrriden to be equivalent to 'low' when the AC relay is engaged. this relay appears to be activated when the AC control **** is in any position other than "OFF".

p.s. 86 is still fairly modernf or a 240. early is a 1975

Thanks Pierce for the objective info. The A/C is not engaged in this case. Maybe the relay is broken? Hmm.

What I mean early, I mean the intro of fuel injection. The jump from 85 to 86 was the most significant in the 240 series.

85 or 86 was the first year for LH-Jetronic (electronic injection), but they were KE-Jetronic (CIS injection) before that. In fact, carburetor 240's were never imported into the US, even the 1975 was only sold here with the B21E injected motor.

Volvo was one of the very first car companies to totally adopt fuel injection.
