I have a '89 240 GL with 153k miles on it. My headlights will flash and then will shut off completely while I am driving. It has also been stalling out after that. I lose all power and then I coast until my warning dash lights will come on. I am able to start it right back up, but need to figure out what it may be. Any help is appreciated!

 

I would first check the electrical connections to the alt and the battery. It could be the alt regulator, check the voltage at the battery terminals with the car running.

I checked my battery and all is good. It is holding and receiving charge. There isn't anything loose. To note, my running/dash lights are only working when I have them selected - if I turn the headlights on all goes out from what I can tell. What kind of other advice will I get from the Volvo Forum geniuses.

 

I'd look at the lights switch, it may be bad. Other than that, Volvos do develop electric glitches that sometimes defy all...[:@]

 

I have resorted to purchasing Hella driving lights because I cannot figure this out. I still stall out every once in a while. [:@]
