Default 240. New rear shocks and coil springs.

Hey all, I'm changing out the rear shocks and coil springs on my 240 DL wagon. The shocks look shot, and the back of the 245 sags pretty noticable. Anyone willing to give some free tips on what is the best method to replace these things? Is there anything else I should inspect or be concerned about while I'm under there replacing the shocks/springs?

Any advice is much appreciated.

On my 240 sedan it was very easy. i wouldn't think a wagon would be much diff. my volvo 240 had a sag in the back so i changed both the shocks and coils. afterwards, it still sags. i have no idea why. best to use one of the bently books. but if you don't, basically put the rear of the car on stilts. then use a jack to slightly lift up the rear drive train before you unbolt the coils and shocks.

good to hear Dman, I've got the bentley manual, I'll just go with what they said then.

Another thing to check while you are under there is the suspension bushings. My understanding is that failed trailing arm bushings will cause sagging as well.

Search the forums here for trailing arm bushings for more info.

Thanks, I got under and looked. The driver side bushing is shot. I'm just going to replace both bushings while I'm doing shocks and coil springs. hopefully that's about all I have to do to get the rear end where it's supposed to be.

Replacing the bushing isn't the easiest task. From what I have read, the replacement poly bushings are easier to install than the originals OEM ones.

For a good write up and how to make your own TAB removal tool, take a look at this site:

Just got the job done yesterday. It went alright. The coil springs and shocks were easy. the trailing arm rear bushing was a beast to replace and I highly recommend using the tool as directed above. a helpful picture guide to use is http://www.flickr.com/photos/jetstar...7622512917998/ Anyway, thanks for the advice everyone, the car is riding higher and prouder.

Saw the coil spring and the pictures you uploaded on flickr. That's a nice set you got there. Good for your car pal.

I don't want to take credit for something I didn't do. I just posted the link to flickr, I wish I had taken the time to take pictures and all but that was not my car. I just found it helpful and thought I would pass it along here. Basically I did the same thing as the flickr page, but also updated the shocks and springs. Luckily, my car didn't have near the rust as the flickr car.
