240 No Main Key
Good day!
Yesterday I came to the realization that the only key I have for my 240 is the service key (can open the front doors and turn on the ignition, no truck access, no roof rack access). I can still open the trunk by unlocking the whole car, but if power locks ever fail on me with groceries in the trunk, I'm in for a nasty treat. I also can't remove the roof racks. What are my chances of getting a new main key? Do I have to call a dealership and get one shipped, or can a new one be cut by a local shop?
Thank you in advance

The valet key that won't open the trunk is fatter - the key won't physically fit into the trunk/glove box lock because it is too wide. A master key is the same cut - so you could get your valet key copied onto a master key blank to solve your problem. Or you can order a master key from a dealer using your VIN to get an exact cut, since copies are not perfect sometimes.
If your key fits into the trunk and glove box locks but won't turn - then someone has changed ignition and door locks, or vice versa.
Can't help you with the roof racks

My key does not go into the trunk lock nor the glove box. I will get a new one cut a bit thinner and see if it works. If it doesn't, I'll contact a dealership. Thank you for your help!
more specifically, the standard ('master') key has an extra lengthwise groove in the sides that is flat on the 'valet' key.
and yeah, re ordering keys from a volvo dealer, copies are iffy, and real Volvo keys are steel, not soft brass
