240 seat disassembly
My son is the proud owner of an '84 240. I purchased the car for him as as a graduation present.....it is the only car he wanted. The interior, with exception to the drivers seat, is in great condition. Although the upholstery on the drivers seat is good, the foam and springs are a mess. We recently purchased a used seat with a solid structure. We hope to exchange the upholstery from the bad seat to the replacement. Before I started the disassembly, I thought I would check to see if there are any tricks to breaking the seats down. The seat back adjuster looks like a challenge. How do the headrests come off? first time on the forum, I would appreciate any help you can offer

RE: 240 seat disassembly
I have an 86 240 dl and had the frame changed and lumbar support rebuilt, reusing existing foam and upolstery. Cost $150 at a auto wrecker specializing in volvo. I chatted with the tech and he said he peels the upolstery off the foam. He also said there were a lot of small parts on the lumber support, so its great you have two seats. Its not much but hope it helps.

RE: 240 seat disassembly
To remove the headrests you need to push and release two clips, then pull the headrest up. These clips are on the headrest support rods and they're about 8" or so (7"-9") below the top of the backrest. You can feel the clips through the upholstery on the front of the backrest. No need to remove the upholstery.
