240 throttle linkage socket upgrade
Just found out today that mercedes metal sockets (80's-90's) are a direct fit for our throttle rod linkages both at the ball and for the thread on the rod. And they are metal. Yay!
I pulled one off an '83 240D, but the gassers have them too.
Crap! one of our is left hand thread, so 1/2 right. None of the linkage rods on the 240D were the right length, hopefully gassers have a shorter rod.

Maybe I'm just hamfisted, but they break sometimes when I remove them. At a dollar or less at the J.Y., the durable mercedes design is a winner in my book.
The one at the bottom of the pic seems like it would be just about right? Going to grab one next time I go to the J.Y.
The 240D has four more rods than that 300E, really something.

fyi, thats the W124 family of Mercedes E class, 1984-1992 300E, 260E, and TE wagons. These have the M103 motor, a classic 3.0L slant 6 single cam, with CIS-E injection. that linkage is under a big round metal air cleaner thats held down by 3 10mm nuts, and mounted on top of the intake manifold, between the fuel distributor and oil filter.
here's the throttle that connects to, normally under the air meter + fuel distributor assembly
here's with the fuel distributor assembly....
and the big air cleaner is over the top that.
