Default 240DL Stalling/ rough idle when cold

I have a 240 DL. It stalles when cold. It also idles rough when cold. When it reaches a closed loop condition it starts to run O.K. I think I might have a problem with the water temp sensor.

The coolant temp is a possibility. The first thing i would do would be to remove the throttle clean it good and the same to the idle motor. Try that first and if is isnt better the try the new sensor.

i had the exact same problem with my car.. it would take me like 20 minutes to warm my car in the morning.. then i'd finally go. and even when i drove off.. it would stop on me.. got it fixed.. well you're idle speed is probably just too low. also cuz not enough gas is shooting into your engine.. that's probably it.. so my suggestion is to go to your mechanic and ask them to adjust the idle speed.

I am having the same problem wtih my 1990 240 wagon...It took forever to get it started today. After driving for a while it starts great....I just got it out of the shop where there was some sort of "oxygen sensor" replacement...doesnt seem to help with the starting...any ideas.??

One other possibility could be a bad intank fuel pump. There are 2 fuel pumps in these cars. When the intank pump goes bad there is a groaning noise that comes from under the drivers side of the car about the middle of the car.And when the car sits for a while the gas back into the tank and then is hard to suck back out of the tank.It can be checked by hooking a fuel pressure guage to the car.Once the guage is hooked up start the car then turn off. After the car sits for a long time check the pressure and see if it fades to 0.The pressure should hold after the car is turned off if it doesnt the fuel pump is bad.
