Hi!
I have a 1989 244 DL automatic with OD, airconditioning, 300,000 mi.
Transmission will not shift past 3rd to OD.
Have had the Transmission flushed, new filter and oil. Relpaced overdrive relay 3804.
Car runs good always has.
Usual problems, rear light circut boards etc. Everything has been repairable.
I have no idea what to do next with the OD problem, well I do have an idea but I like the car and would prefer to repair.

Welcome to the forum.

There are 3 main parts to the overdrive. The switch in the shifter, the relay, and the solenoid. If any one of these items malfunctions, the OD will not work.

If you never pull a trailer or ever turn the OD off, I would just replace the solenoid with a blank off plate. This will make it so that the OD is always ready to me used so the car will always shift into 4th.
