740 GLE fuel delivery issues
Hey folks, I need your knowledge.
There was a similar post on here but my problem has yet to be solved. My 86 740 GLE non turbo has some fuel issues. Prior to the car stopping running it would surge intermittently like there was a bad ground or a plugged fuel filter. I have replaced both fuel pumps and inline fuel filter, the relay and fuses. It will turnover, it gets spark, but no fire. I have hit a dead end. Any suggestions of what to take a look at? any direction?

I had a 240 Dl with the same engine and the same trouble, turned out to be a bad mass air flow sensor, you can try cleaning it with a can of CRC part number 5110, it is made specifically for m.a.f. sensors and works well in most cases.
If that does not fix it, check the wiring harness where it plugs into the sensor, there may be corrosion there, a common problem on these cars.
Good luck

there is a identical relay for the injectors mounted near the coolant tank I forget what the other one does but you can swap to check the relay for the injectors. Also check for fuel pressure, my intank pump quit a short time after it was installed so I got to do that happy job again!
