740 In-tank Fuel Pump Installation
Has anyone done this themselves? My sending unit died (not the pump half) and apparently it requires a magician to get it in there "just so".
I have put it in and taken it out twice, and it still gets stuck at 1/4 or 5/8 of a tank. I was told by two old seasoned volvo mechanics that I trust, that yes, it is a major pain, still takes them one or two tries, and that the sock on the intake must be pressed down on the bottom of the baffle inside the tank.
There is about a 1/2" plastic lip on it that fits snugly inside the collar, and I was told to look at it and the plastic cast lines to make sure it is perfectly straight when I push it in and down into the collar the last inch.
Still no luck. Ideas? I don't think the unit is bad.
