740 Turbo - Problems Down The Road?
I'm looking to buy a car, and I found an 87 740 Turbo Station Wagon from the original owner with 110,000 miles on it for $2650. It sounds like a pretty good deal for me, considering the miles/age. However, my dad expressed some concern reguarding the turbo system, saying they're known to overheat the car and require regular and expensive maintainence. I'm just looking for some input from someone who is familiar with these kinds of cars and what they can hold up to. Does this sound like a good deal? Will I have trouble with the turbo later on? The car has no problems and was regularly serviced in the past. Thanks!
that's a price fit for only the well taken care of, but truly if the Volvo was well cared for and is still then that is a very fair price. it good to think about what could go wrong but don't go too into that kind of crap, unless of course you're prone to callamity without resolve. Nevertheless, if you are seriously considering the Volvo for purchase than I can only hope you plan on caring for it well, A Volvo will be very expensive to maintain/repair, yet if you do it yourself there's not much to worry about. The high price is mainly the service charge from mechanics, your choice.
take the Volvo for a test run, look through the engine bay and under it, look for excessive oil deposits or leaks. how familiar are you with self=maintenance? look through the service records. listen for the idle, there is going to be a diesel enginesound, but that's normal...but if it sounds like it's bolts in a blender...ask questions.
