Default 740 wagon issues

Just a bought a 740 wagon -1992 with 135,000 miles. Replaces a 245 with 212,000 miles which replaced a 245D with 320,000 miles. So I am moving up...maybe. The car is great, but needs two fixes which will drive me nuts. First - the lift gate can't be opened from the outside latch. Need to use the inside latch via a broomstick. Inconvenient. Anyone with a likely cause? 2: Electric locks don't work. Before I take off the left front door panel and start probing with a meter, anywhere else I should look or a common point to test all the other remote actuators? How do the lift gate and left front door panels come off? I have Chilton, but it simply says to proceed very carefully....duh. I needed that advice.

Default RE: 740 wagon issues

Before you remove door panels, check the controlling fuse and the central locking and unlocking relays. Not sure about the specifics of a '92 740. My car has two such relays behind the center vent on the dashboard.
