740 Windsheild trim parts?
Hi all,
I have a 1992 740 Turbo Wagon which got a new OEM windshield over the summer... At the end of the summer I took a road trip and a part of the trim flipped off on the passenger side.
I took the car back to the place that did the auto-glass replacement and they said I needed new trim parts because of worn out clips or something... (and a corner piece is missing now because of this)
A week later they called me and told me the parts that were needed were discontinued and they put in a request with some service or another... It's been weeks now and they purportedly still don't have the parts.
Anyway, what I'm looking to find out is if anyone here knows where I could get whatever parts it is I am apparently in need of. So far everywhere I've looked has very little listed as far as trim parts are concerned and I'm not really sure what I should be looking for.
Here's a link to a couple somewhat hi-res photos.

my windshield trim is on its last legs... the upper right side of the windshield sometimes develops a loud buzz at exactly 65MPH....
afaik, its unobtanium, except off a junkyard car, which is likely in as bad shape as yours.
HOWEVER. you can use a new wind shield from a 1995+ 940/960/S90/V90, which has the trim integrated onto the glass like many newer cars. naturally, this windshield costs more, but hey, its replacing your broken trim.... I'm waiting til my windshield needs replacing or the buzz annoys me too much (a tsrip of gaffers tape strategically placed on the upper right trim seems to stop it for a few months).

We had a broken windshield on our 89 740 this summer. The place that came to replace it broke the trim. I pressed them to replace it and it took them 3 months to find the trim . They had 4 parts search companies look for it and finally found a used set in Europe. Good luck.
Any junkyard that carry older cars, not a hard search... Not much $ in it, so regular yards will blow you off... Go to a Self Service type, all the 740/760/940/960 are bodied the same, although there are differences, the trim is the same except for the finish, chrome or black. The clips are reusable too, although they often break upon removal of the trim, 50-50.
I'm going to call the auto-glass shop on Monday and find out what's up... it's been a while since I've heard from them on this. I'm also going to mention the possibility of a newer model windshield since there's that integrated trim thing with those...
I'm going to be hitting the scrap yards over winter break trying to find a sun visor since mine broke and the stupid thing is also discontinued... I will probably see about trim. It really sucks that all the window trim is discontinued unobtainium... the rubber strips are falling apart on both my side tailgate windows too :-/
I really don't want used trim though... it'll probably wind up rattling and that'll drive me absolutely nuts.
So anybody have a picture of a 740 that's been fitted with a 960 windshield? There's no issue even where the windshield meets the cowl?

some year, I believe /before/ the new style 960/sv90, they switched to a windshield where the trim is pre-attached to the windshield. I have heard those are interchangeable, but no, I can't find an authoritative source to confirm this.
I looked at this when they replaced my WS and found that the newer one would fit but it only had a trim piece on the bottom edge. You still need to get the other 3 pieces which are NLA. The black trim came from the turbo cars.
I really don't see how ALL four sides trim pieces can come attached to the WS... Windshields just don't work that way. Trim pieces are used to fill the gap between the glass and the pillars as there are variations in manufacturing, especially in the glass process aftermarket. And all glass is "aftermarket", since Volvo at least never made their own glass, few manufacturers do in fact...
And ALL 740/940 have black trim from 1990 on, not just the turbos. The black trim is unfortunately less durable than the aluminum as it is covered with black plastic coating which peels and looks shabby; it is especially weak in the 1994/1995 models.

I did keep my old set. They have some dents but are in good overall shape. It is the chrome set. Some of the side rubber is rough but it can be used. I made the glass installer get me another set but would have reinstalled them without a problem. This is the 4 pieces with the 2 corner pieces. If I sell them I'll be asking $1000 . My body shop told me to get more. Based on my search it's going to be another 3-5 years before you won't find them at all. If anyone finds a used set I would suggest they get them.
I suppose none of the stuff listed here would work.

interesting. but note they don't have piece 1 (the top) or 3a (the bottom), just the corners and sides. its the side pieces that re in bad shape on mine, that and the upper corners.
btw, shabby black trim can greatly be enhanced with a couple light coats of SEM brand Black Trim Paint.

I'm now on my fourth attempt at ordering clips for the trim from some online vendor...
...you'd think something like this could be made on demand with a 3D printer.
I managed to get some sort-of-decent trim while at the pick-n-pull in Lynwood along with a nicer looking grill, some door trim parts, and a sun visor all for $35... the trim clips snapped when I took the trim off around the windshield.

Looks and feels like plastic to me. Maybe we're not thinking of the same thing.
