I have an 88 740 turbo that's missing the bottom windsheild strip entirely. The clips are still there. It was black but I'd be OK with chrome just to get it covered. I'm kinda wondering if a length of thin aluminum strip would do the trick. I can see that a 1.25" strip of 26 guage with .5" of the top edge folded over to engage the top of the body rim could work. The clips might be in the way and need to be removed. Done right could look OK. Main problem is finding a 5 foot sheet bender.

Has anyone fabbed this sort of thing or have suggestions?

Not an answer to your question, but I was told that the bottom strip of trim is still available new when I called Volvo customer care about my '92. No idea if an 88 and a 92 use the same trim around the windshield.

Also, I got my new clips from CAR PARTS DISCOUNT Auto Parts Stores & Online Warehouse and they also say they have them in stock for the 1988 for $6.95 for a pack... if you were able to get the missing trim piece, it'd probably be a good idea to use new clips so it fit solid..

You're speaking of the factory parts counter? If so, thanks. I'll check their price. Yes, new clips good idea.
