Default 740 ZF auto trans in an 1988 240

Anyone tried it yet? I am wondering if I used the dip stick tube and cooler lines from the 740 would it work? Would in need to use the drive shaft from the 740?

Tried what? Swap a ZF for AW? Parts mentioned won't just swap over... Should research the drive shaft issue: 740's used both ZF (early), then went to AW.

Wondering if I could put the ZF in place of a bad AW if I had access to the whole 740 car. I figured since 740s got AW also the ZF stuff might work in a 240.

the AW7X were a major upgrade in reliability, durability, and strength.

you'll need a different driveshaft as the transmissions are different lengths. the 240 and 740/940 driveshafts are different sizes and center bearings, and everything.

Thanks again Pierce, yeah it was the hair brained idea of a desperate fool.
