I removed the instrument cluster to try to fix a problem with the temperature gauge, and now I'm having a problem getting it reinstalled. Working by feel because the cables aren't long enough the get the thing out where I can both see and reach, I thought I had the cables hooked up and turned it on. Only two of the warning lights came on, no turn signals, no gauges. Tach does work. Thought I might have put the 8 pin connector on backwards? Turned it around, now I have the brake warning in addition to the other two, but nothing else is different. Can't tell if any of the connectors are fully seated. The manual suggests removing the panels under the steering wheel, but that didn't help. Any suggestions? If I take off the steering wheel, will I mess up the airbag?

 

what year 740? the last few years are different than the earlier ones.

on my 92, I had to remove the panels AND the metal knee braces behind them to access the back. It was also a lot easier to remove the drivers seat (I'm a big guy) so I could lie on my back and reach up there.

 

It's a 1988 wagon.

 

k, I don't have any wiring diagrams or whatever for those older ones, only ever had the 1992 740T, various 900's (and a 240).
