Angry '77 M45 rev.LockoutFix: need to hear from someone who's done it please?!

I have a '77 242; 180K miles. No overdrive, just nice handling M45 manual. Quite a while back the reverse lockout link broke, leaving me with no reverse. So I quickly pulled out the lockout block under shifter boot. 'Been driving it that way since, but not a good idea if someone else needs to drive my car. So after reading all I could find I plunged in this morning. Not much room to get the allen lock screw out under the car at the shifter yoke, but I did. But getting the yoke/pivet PIN to slide out is a horse of a different color. Won't budge. Having it sit above the drive line doesn't help, but in any event I spent all morning trying to figure different ways of getting some pressure on the pin so it will move. Nothing.

Tips on line merely say, "tap it out." How they did that with no room to work I don't know.

Volvo green manual at least says, "press out." As if there is any room for a press either.

Has anyone done this? How'd you get to the pin to get it out?

I guess I could drop the front of the drive line but there is still not a lot of side room at that yoke.

My car is nice and oily there so I don't think a heavy rust issue is present. On the other hand, I doubt it's been out since it was built either.

???????????
