I would like to report the following nightmare.

1979 242 DL

Heater Hose cracked...overheated...and my cylinder head melted inside out..

Original block.....BLOCK is sound though...seems like the car had overheated previously and patch work was done in the past...COOLANT PORTS CONNECTED
TO EACH OTHER BY EATING THE CYL HEAD SURFACE AND CAN VISUALLY SEE HOLES GOING INTO THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER....!!!!!!

I GOT YOOHOO IN MY HEAD...
ONE FREEZE PLUG LEAKING...

 

I'd get a new engine. Severe overheating especially before you owned it is a bad ghost to chase. You can get a motor for a couple of hundred from Ecology, and go through it. A serious project no doubt!

 

Pick your part is having a half off sale this weekend and have dismantled two Engines...

I will have to do a full engine swap this weekend as it is my daily driver....

front Aux sproket leaked
coolant leaked out of most seals or gaskets.....the engine was very bad from the start.
YEARS OF NEGLECT....FOR SURE....

FULL ENGINE SWAP....10 hours....my goal.
