Default S70 T5 Timing Belt Catastrophe

What are the common results from a timing belt snap on this engine, car has about 200000KM on it.

What would be good, moderate and worst scenerios for repairs. What parts would need replacing and what would be the approx cost of pars that may be needed? Noot too worried on cost of labour but what would be the approx shop time involved on such a repair after the situation was accerssed? would picking up a good used head be a good alternative? what engine model would this car have and what model years and cars are it in? Is the turbo 5cyl in the 850 the same engine with swapable parts? This car has a maual transaxle if it matters

Thanks for any advise!

Probably looking at about $3,000 in repair costs at an Independent Volvo Shop. Chances are you bent some valves and will need to have the head taken to a machine shop for repair. If you go the route of a new head, make sure you get the head and cam cover together. The are machined out of one piece and you should keep them together. If you do the work yourself and take the head to a machine shop, you could probably get it done for about $1200 to $1500. If you have the 2.3L engine it's the same as on the 850 Turbos. Not sure if that's what's in the S70 T5 or not though. What year is it?

it is a 1998 S70 T5 Manual, are the turbo and non turbo heads the same, I'm assuming that the compression ratio would be different in a turbo and a N/A engine in the same line, but would the difference come from the head or pistons?

Fortunatly I live only a couple miles away from a Volvo wrecker that has 100's of wrecks and hopefully parts should be easier/cheaper to come by.

thanks
Mike

Turbos use different engines than non-turbos. The Turbos use a 2.3L and the non-turbo is a 2.4L, at least that's true in the earlier 850's. Not sure what size the low pressure turbo model uses. I am almost certain though that the 98 T5 uses the 2.3L motor.
