Good Afternoon All,

I'm in the process of swapping out my coolant temperature sensor that goes to the ecm(with 2 prongs). When i went to the napa site, I saw that they also carry a fuel injection temperature sensor that at first glance looks like what i'm looking for. Are these the same, if not where is it located on the engine? I've taken off the intake manifold to swap out the old defective temp sensor. But i was just curious about this fuel injection temp sensor I keep seeing. I figured that if its somewhere under the manifold, i could kill 2 birds with one stone while i have the manifold off.

I would *not* buy any Volvo parts other than coolant (zerex g05) and oil at Napa, however.

83 was the first year for LH II injection, I believe? do you know if you have CIS-E (ke-jetronics) or electronic LH injection? CIS uses a hydromechanical fuel distributor, while LH uses electric operated fuel injectors...

if its LH, your CTS sensor is Volvo PN 1306937, this is probably NOT the same as later cars. https://www.ipdusa.com/products/1672...erature-sensor

i think i do have the electronic LH injection. i'm also assuming the the hydromechanical distributor looks a lot like the mercedes distributors of that generation. i don't really see one sitting on the engine or off to the side so i'm assuming no. i bought the car used with the green coolant. there's no telling how long it's had the green stuff in it.

 

For what it's worth the Volvo brand coolant is actually green although it's a g05 formula. regular prestone style green coolant as long as it's safe for alloy heads and such can be used in these engines as long as it's changed annually. The G05 is good for several years.

On the Volvo c is the fuel distributor is kind of buried but the giveaway is that LH has a wire to each injector and the injectors are all on a common fuel rail. CIS, each injector has its own metal line that snakes down to that distributor underneath the intake manifold.

 

Ok, I'm pretty sure it's an LH. I had to move the rail out the way and non of the injectors had metal lines snaking out of them. so, where exactly is this CTS sensor. what's the correct resistance for it.

 

the CTS is one of 2-3 sensors under the manifold screwed into the side of the block.... its the one with 2 pins. either pin to the body of the sensor ranges from like 6000 ohms (6 kilohms) at freezing (32F/0C) to 160 ohms at boiling (212F/100C). at 68F/20C 'room temperature', it should be around 2300 ohms. 10% tolerance on these is acceptible. one of the pins is used by the ignition control unit, the other pin is used by the ECU fuel injection control unit.

now, those values I quote are for a newer car with LH 2.2 or 2.4, early LH-II could be different, I honestly don't know.

the resistance when i checked last week was about 266 at about 50F. i was working with resistance readings from alldata and if i remember correctly they're close to your numbers. either way, i suspect that's why the car is running slightly choppy at idle.

 

266 ohms at 50F sounds way too low, it should be more like 4000 ohms.... but I don't have any info on early LH-II, its not entirely the same as the later 2.2 or 2.4 systems I'm familiar with.
