Default Anyone replaced floor in 84 240 GLE Sedan? - rust

I picked up an 84 240 GLE sedan with 205k that runs great, shifts great, interior is darn near perfect, power windows and even the mirrors work, sunroof seals nicely, tires are good and overall paint is good. The problem is the rocker panels (inner and outer) both sides rear of the front door back are rusted out... as in friggin' gone. The spare tire wheel wells are pretty much toast, and there are some rust holes in the floor as well. I own a welder and have nothing but time to work on this project. The only thing it will cost me is time and purchase of sheet metal to fix it. Is it worth it in your opinion to do this for my sons first car? He is only 14, so I literally have 2 years to complete the project. I will try and get some pictures of the rust up in a bit. Want some feedback, as well as if anyone has cut out and replaced a 240's floor / rockers / spare tire wells, I would love to get some input from you as well. Thanks so much.

That's a lot of rust... Then again, you say you have time, but still... Your labor is worth something. When you get done, you'll have a $500 car... I personally wouldn't touch it... If you want to restore something, at least pick something that will have some value when finished... I love Volvo but some of them are not worth saving... In this case may be you can transplant most of this car into a better body...

Yeah, I know you are right... but... I will also be teaching my son about the mechanics of owning a car. Oil changes, general maintenance, etc. I may tackle it knowing that I will just delay the inevetable death of this fine automobile. It will give me a chance to practice my welding without fear of messing anything up... because if I mess it up, oh well... right? Thanks for the input.

If there is anyone out there that has tackled a rust job on a Volvo, please hit me up.

If I had a welder and the time you speak of I would scrounge up the sheet metal and do it. I would gut the car, cut and weld. Sounds like fun!

That's what I think... maybe I am warped. I am going to tackle it... it is a perfect first car for my son and it will give me some much needed welding practice on a car that really doesn't matter all that much if I screw it up. So... off to a cuttin' and a weldin' I a go...

Anyone out there that has replaced 240 floor pans, PLEASE hit me up with some pics, advice, valium... somethin! Thanks!
