Default '85 245 with starting prob.

Over the last few months i've noticed problems starting our volvo 240 wagon. It's an '85 with 92k. The problem occurrs, I would say 50% of starts, and more commonly in the mornings. The car starts up but then immediately dies. Then other times it starts up no problem. If i give it a little gas while starting after it has cut off, it seems to run well until i let off the gas. Then sometimes is cuts out or other times it runs fine. A friend recommends cleaning the throttal body and changing the O2 sensor and possiblythe air flow meter.Of course i'll start cheap and work my way into the red. But does this sound like the road i needto be headingdown or change course??

Just an update. My local Volvo shop diagnosed the problem as a bad Mass Air Flow Sensor...or MAF...or AMM. I called around and found a rebuilt MAF for alot lessthen new. Just pulled the old out and pluged the new in.Car starts great and is running better than it has in years. Good luck.
