'85 740 master cylinder replacment
Hi guys...Well my master cylinder is leaking pretty bad and bout that time to replace it..just wanting to know how easy or difficult it is to do myself...if anybody can give me the best way kinda step by step on how to do it, it would greatly be appreciated...i hear you have to disconnect from the brake pedal and such..just wondering so i dont do any unnessesary disconnections n all that stuff.. thank you for your help.
you shouldn't have to disconnect the brake pedal at all, as the power booster is what actually connects to the pedal...
all you should have to disconnect is the lines, mounting bolts, and the level sensor/abs electrical(if either is equipped on the car), and if it's a remanufactured unit, you will have to change the fluid reservoir to the new cylinder...
bleeding the brakes afterward, is a 2 person job if you don't have a pressure bleeder. if you have ABS on your car, read up on the correct procedure for doing this, as it can cause more problems... if not an ABS car, just start bleeding from the right rear, then left rear, right front, left front, until clean clear fluid (and no bubbles come out), and always make sure there's enought fluid in the reservoir!
HTH!
