850 to 940 seat swap
#2
no, pretty sure they won't. I measured them when I had an 850, just for laughs. 240's won't interchange with 7/9's either. you need the seats from a 740 or 940/960 if you want it to bolt in, and note that 740s have a different cushion design with a longer thigh support. also the wiring for seat heaters and power seats can vary by year, but its not that hard to swap it around. I also had to swap the seat belt fasteners when I did a seat swap (I took the old seats out of my 92 740 and put them in a 91 940SE (really a 960), and took some newer 960 seats and put them in my 740...

cloth was pretty rare on US model 940s most every one I've seen has been leather. do you have a power or manual driver seat? do you have seat heaters? those were all options, and/or bundled with different trim levels (GLE vs GL, etc).
the three years I swapped seats between all had different heater and power seat connectors (well, ok, my 92 740T didn't have power seats at all, so I had to run power to the drivers seat).

Both 940 turbos and NA can be with cloth seats or leather. Power seats or not. Sunroof or not. Fog lights or not. I have a '945T with no roof, cloth manual seats.
The GL designation was dropped after the '92 MY.
Cold weather package had heated seats, outside temp gauge, locking dif.
And, no, you cannot put 850 seats in a 940 without major cost prohibitive mods!

Have you ever seen cloth seats with power and heat?

I remember Pierce suggesting(if I stay with leather) to go to a junk yard and find a passenger seat in good condition and switch the cushions(which is the only ripped part). Is there a diy tutorial on replacing seat cushions?

its pretty easy to figure out. 4 bolts and a couple connectors, and the whole seat comes out of the car.
the seat back, you peel the skin off after removing the headrest and any clips or hog rings at the bottom of the back. IIRC, the seat cushion, you pull some rods out the side and the skin comes off. the passenger seat back cover has the hole for the lumbar support on the wrong side, so you have to cut a hole which can be hemmed with waxed upholstery thread. when you have the covers off, repair any broken springs and wires in the base, and if the foam is broken down, you can swap it too.
