Default 86 245 DL - Wagon door lock won't lock

Hello all! I'm back with a new issue. I can't get the "trunk" door lock to lock on my wagon. The back panel is off so I can see the mechanism and everything seems to turn and move. It doesn't lock or unlock when I use the key in the drivers side door, so I was hoping to just be able to lock it manually with the key but it's a no go.

I can turn the key clockwise and counter clockwise when i put it in the lock, but it doesn't lock. I've dug around online to see if I can find anything that refers to this issue - or tell me more about how the lock works but haven't found anything.

Advice?? I need to be able to lock the car and so far i'm stuck.

I have a 91 245 so hopefully this helps

there is the latch with a hole punched in it, so when you press the button to open the door it moves up and down. On its own it wot do a thing unless the corresponding pin is in place. I will try to get a photo soon but basically, look at the latch assembly from the inside, remove the pin thats about 1/4" in diameter and about 1.5" long. Boom door is now "locked"

(I love how these doors don't actually lock but instead simply disable to door release button)

no problem, hope it helps you out.

also a thought is to check the wiring on the drivers door central locking system as this can deteriorate pretty badly and short out
also check the grounds to the locking relay on the hatch as well as the wire harness going through the hatch hinges as these are known to go bad, especially the ground.

Update - better late than never? - Got the lock all lubed up (the guy I bought the car from actually came over and did it) and it's working fine now, manually. I don't care that it doesn't lock automatically so problem solved as far as i'm concerned. ha.

Most likely the problem is the wires that run through the hinges to the hatch. These have an extreme bend when the hatch is up. How are the other items in the hatch working? Windshield wiper? Center brake light? License plate lights? Rear window defroster? More than likely one or more of these items aren't working either - all indicating the need to replace the wiring harness to the hatch.

Incredible how many things start functioning once cleaned and lubed up! Tightening screws also helps...

Hey Act, you're probably onto something. Windshield wiper and license plate lights work. The 3th brake light in the center is actually missing so that's not a problem at the moment, haha. Rear defroster does not work. I already made a repair to one of the wires pinched in the door but i'll need to look further if I wanted to fix it all.

Lev - a couple of screws lose on this end for sure. Wait, are we still talking about the car? Loving the Volvo life so far, anxious to finish the list of repairs i've been working on though. New odometer gear going in today!
