86 740 gl won't turn over but dash lights up
I have 1986 vovlo 740 gl and I went to start it,it tryed to start but died like the battery went dead.I tryed to jump it but I get nothing on the key.The battery has a full charge and the lights on the dash work along with everything else but the motor won't turn over??????

So when you start it it keeps trying to turn over but it doesn't, or when you start it it sounds like the battery doesn't have enough power?
If it's the first one I'd check the fuel pump fuse, that's exactly what happened to me and I didn't think to check the fuses. If it's not that then unfortunately I'm not any good with Volvos so I couldn't tell you, but if it's the later and you have a full battery you might have a bad starter motor.

When I turn the key the dash lights are on but all I hear is the tick from the relay swich and it won't turn over so I don't know if it's a short, the ignition,or the starter but the battery is full of juice. At first it cranked over but slowed down and stopped like the battery died and now I get nothing.

Could be the battery. Make sure it is 12+ VDC first thing in the morning. Then after trying to start it, check the voltage again. Should still be around 12 VDC. If not, consider a new battery. Other things to do: clean battery posts, cables, and the ground connections for the ground cable. Next, try using a remote starter. If it starts using a remote starter, for automatics, it could be the neutral safety switch. Other culprits include wiring and starter solenoid.
