Nothing wrong with Mexican run shops! "Duct tape and wire"? Any other stereotypicals? While having a leaf blower on their back? Even if so, if they can handle an HG on an Expedition they can certainly do a b230.
Besides, no need to do all that extra stuff in a HG job, unless you want to... HG set costs $50 and includes all the gaskets, that's why it's a "set"...
Look, people pay the money, no doubt, but they don't have to... I certainly can't see spending a grand on a thousand dollar car, if that.
Two of the reasons these cars are great are because they are cheap and super simple.

I love this site but we got to leave certain opinions out.
To me this is a site for DO IT YOURSELF'RS......so to keep it short.
Shop Head Gasket: $700 to 1000 dollars....upside...warranty, pro shop, downside...price, no pro shop
Doing it Yourself: $50 to $100 dollars....upside...price, learning...downside...time spent & errors
I replace the fluids, and order a gasket set not just the gasket when I do a HG.
Obviously more money is needed is you send the cyl heads to a shop...

hey, the original poster asked 'what it would cost to get fixed?'. not 'what would it cost me to fix it?' or 'how do I fix it?'. I live in a very expensive area, the central California Coast, just south of San Francisco and Silicon Valley. nothing is cheap here. the guys in front of the hardware store wanted $18/hour to pull up some poison oak.
