Hi all:

I'm searching for a replacement fuel pressure regulator for my 87 740 2.3L FI non-turbo but I keep finding conflicting info on the part number. The one I'm replacing is a Bosch 0280 160 225 but some sites say this is not a fit for my vehicle and recommend a PR60, then other sites say a PR60 is for turbo and I need a PR80.

Does anyone know the correct part number and cross refs for this part?

I'm assuming its bad because the previous owner zip-tied the return line closed and removing the zip ties causing major stalling even at idle.

That's the first time I've ever heard of restricting the regulator manually to fix it. Wow!

You might also check your fuel pressure just to be sure that's not part of the issue too.

Only thing I buy at OReilly is wipers, oil, and that sort of thing. They don't even carry the types of wax I like to use.

 

Meguiars works great for me. I find OReily's to be close and convenient. They back up their products and refunds aren't an issue if there's a problem.

I have now received 5-6 pairs of front brake pads and 3-4 set of rears when I originally bought them for my 99 Expedition. The warranty didn't exclude wear and they have always just replaced them with a smile. Now with over 320k on it, I applaud their customer service and they get the majority of my repair money.

I also use Autozone, Napa, and Amazon when necessary.

My local Volvo shop also sells parts when needed.

We all have our habits.

 

oreilly's catalog had completely different year ranges for the two versions of the LH2 pressure regulator than FCPEuro (and Volvo). the older FPR is 36-38 psi, the newer 42-44psi, and the injectors were changed at the same time.

Meguiars is decent stuff, but I prefer their professional Mirror Glaze product line, which is sold in several local autoparts shops (Winchester Auto ftw!), but rarely found in the big chains.

 

Thank you both for your help..still confused but I think I'll just go for the identical P/N as my failed one.

I don't have a means to check fuel rail pressure, but it appears the FPR is passing a lot of fuel.

Looks like there's a slight pressure difference between the pre-7/87 and post-7/87. I'm not sure it's really a big enough difference to affect general driveability or life span of injectors.
