Default '87 740- where does foglight power come from?

i am assuming its the yellow wire on the back of the switch, which runs up into the darkest regions of the dash. my foglights just stopped working all of the sudden the other day, if i apply power to the white/purple wire coming off the switch i get the foglights to light up. problem is that i have no power going to the switch with the headlights on. according to a wiring diagram i have (dont know how reliable it is) there is a foglight relay in with the rest of em behind the coin tray in front of the shifter, well when i pull the panel out, that relay spot is blank, as in, no connector to even plug a relay into.
