Default 88 240 Tie Rod Nut Type: Nylock or regular?

hi,
been replacing the front suspension parts on my '88 volvo 240. i originally ordered a tie rod from fcp that turned out to be a flennor and the nut on it was just a regular hex nut, then i returned it and got the TRW/moog tie rod and it didn't come with any nuts.

was wondering the kind of nut that goes on the tie rod, is it just a regular hex nut? been hearing that nylock is a good choice to go on tie rods from other forums...
the original ones on my car are frozen but appear to be just regular nuts. (also anyone know a good source for yellow zinc plated metric fasteners? i know of eagleday but they don't have any m14 nuts and selection is a bit limited)
any input about this would be really helpful thanks

The tie rods from trw and moog are suppose to come with the nylock nuts (which is what i used). Where did you get them? call and tell them to send you the nuts.
TrueValue usually stocks them. I even think do-it-center might carry them.

Are you talking about the tie rod, or the tie rod end?

the nut that goes on the tie rod to keep the tie rod end in place....it doesn't go on the tie rod end.
anyway, i called fcp and they said that it the moog tie rod doesn't come with a nut, but recommended to use a nylock.

oh.. I just used the regular nut to hold the tierod in place.
nylock holds the tie rod end to the steering knuckle

That's just a keeper nut...doesn't need to be a lock nut. As has been pointed out, the tie rod end to knuckle should definitely be a nylock.

All that nut does is locks the adjustment. To put a nylock nut on the rod would be very hard since the nylon side would have to go on first.

just been looking at the nut again, and been learning about nuts, and i have a strong feeling it's a jam nut. looking online it seems they are common on tie rods, will try to confirm with the local fastener store tomorrow...
