Default 90 240 DL - Speed sensor or crank position sensor

Is there a difference between the speed sensor and the crank position sensor in a 1990 240 DL? If they are different, which is the one in the engine compartment that attaches to the transmission bell housing?

Thanks. FCPEuro calls it a Reference Sensor RPM. Bizarre. Is there also a sensor in the rear differential?
