'90 240: fuel pump working, pump relay OK. Regulator?
Hi all,
So my '90 240 has been running less than great. Low idle, sometimes hard to start, infrequent random dying. Now, it won't start at all.
I disconnected the fuel line at the rail and ran the pump; it is working. In fact, when I reconnected the fuel line, the car started and ran for a few seconds. The pump relay is operational.
I suspect the fuel pressure regulator, but Bentley does not list a way to test it.
Fuel pressure is unknown. I'd like to be able to test it, but I'm a bit intimidated by the adaptors that must be fabricated.
Thanks,
Monty

I have a 90 DL 240 wagon. Recently, mine had the same symptoms as you listed. On a hunch, I pulled off the vacuum line to the Fuel Pressure Regulator, fuel came out, replaced the FPR, easy job, Started instantly, ran fine. I hope this helps.

If the '90 240 is an LH-Jetronic 2.2, then go to www.stepbystepvolvo.comfor a diagnostic guide on 740 no-starts. Fuel will come out of the fuel rail with a working in-tank pump and failed main fuel pump. If the main fuel pump has failed, your car will not start.
