90 240 starts then stalls

hello to all, so the 240 we just got had some issues. pulled it out of a field it was setting in for 10 years. it is in very good shape still though.. great first car for my boy who just turned 16. got it running by replacing main fuel pump, filter. also replaced the sending unit and filter sock in the tank. it will fire right up but then chugs out? if you give it some gas it stays running and once its warm it will stay running. also took it up the road and seems fine once off idle, but stumbles at every stop? i have yet to hear the pump in the tank run at any time except for when we hook power directly to it then it whirred fine? the hose from the exhaust to the airbox is gone also, would this affect that? does the pump relay under the dash control the pump in the tank? can you test that relay at all with a meter? also does the gauge cluster being in /out have anything to do with rear pump working? new to volvos not to cars (LOVE THEM) thanx

air leaks anywhere between the MAF and the intake manifold can lead to stalling at idle. also check the idle air controller and its short little hoses, thats under the intake manifold.

that air hose from the exhaust isn't important except to pass emissions in states that inspect such things (<cough>Caliifornia</cough>)

both pumps are wired together and as long as the engine is running, they both should run. when you first turn the key on, they run for about 1 second then stop until you crank the engine over.
