did your car have the stereo upstairs with an eq/amp at hte bottom, or just a stereo upstairs, or just a stereo at the bottom? I've seen all 3 configurations on 240s. also, what speakers did the stock come with? our 87 240 sedan just had front door speakers wired, no rears at all.
I have the greenbooks for most years of 240, so if you answer, I can hopefully find the right diagrams.

ok, and hmm. 1991 240 greenbook wiring diagrams only list "Radio with extra amplifier and power antenna'. this is with the stereo on top and the amp/equalizer on the bottom.
on top, at the radio... 2 blacks are ground. green is fused always-on power. yellow-black is fused ignition/accessory power. red is antenna control. blue-white is dimmer. brown is rheostat+ (I doubt you can use this on an aftermarket stereo, so tape off and leave disconnected).
at the bottom, on the original amplifer, 2 blacks are ground. 2 greens are unswitched power. yellow-white and white are front-left speaker. yellow-grey and grey are front-right speaker. yellow-brown and green-brown are rear-left speaker. yellow-green and green-grey are rear-right speaker. (each speaker, I list + then -).
the two units were connected with a proprietary DIN connector.
if it was MY car, I'd put the stereo in the bottom slot (you can get a DIN adapter panel that fits into it), and find a factory 'pocket' for non-radio 240s to put in the odd shaped top slot, for keeping your sunglasses or whatever. I don't like bright colored stereo lights in my face at night, and I like my stereo discretely tucked away out of easy view.

oh, the diagrams show the rear speakers are wired to a connector over above the gas pedal.
the amplifiier should be in the very bottom of the console, below the ashtray, forward of the gear shift. according tot he wiring harness drawing, there's a 'Y" harness, one plug goes to the radio unit, another goes to the amplifier, and te other end of this cable has two connectors near the gas pedal, one with front speakers and power-etc, and the other with rear speakers. the wire colors should be the same on both sides of these connectors.

Volvo 240 Equalizer
Hi Pierce, I am planning to add the factory Equalizer down at the bottom of the console of my 1993 Volvo 240, first, how do I install the Equalizer unit there, I have a like a storage with felt on it, second, how do you wire it to my original radio with cassette in it, all I can see is a wire with 6 pin connector and a RED wire. Do you think its compatible to my radio? thanks
