91 240 failed emissions test
basically, my 1991 240 has failed the emissions test. the mechanic has informed me that getting a catalytic converter would be a good if not best option for this issue. apparently, they aren't cheap. what do you think are the other options to reduce my emissions? i think i could get a cold air intake. is the cat con the best thing for my car in terms of emissions and longevity of the car life? i'd appreciate any answers. thanks
Which part of the E-test dis you fail?
You need a cat for the Emission test.....So you can get a universal one and have some one weld it on for you. Cats work better when heated....Drive the car for a go 10-30 minutes before the E-test, that will reall help lower emission.
My 91 has the stock cat still (~258,000miles) and it still passes Calis tests.
Is your car running too rich? that will ruin a cat.
