Default '91 240 stereo - amp bypass?

Before I start taking apart my entire dashboard, does anybody know for sure if the 1991 240 sedan has an amp somewhere in the car?

I've got some conflicting info from local stereo shops. All they seem to have in stock are wiring kits that bypass an amp. But in a quick follow-along of the wiring, I don't see where one can be other than in the dash, under the steering wheel.

I found some great instructions for the 740 from the same time period, but nothing for the 240. If someone could just let me know if its there or not before I start tearing my car apart, it would be greatly appreciated.

This is the only wiring diagram I can find for a '91 240 and it does show an amp behind the centre of the dash.

Trace one of the speaker wires and you should find it.
