Default 92 240 manual shifter removal

I'm in the process of removing my transmission and this seemingly simple task has me stuck. I have removed the hex lock screw from the bottom of the lever but I cannot slide the pin out that attaches it to the shift rod. Any tips? I am assuming the beveled end of the pin needs to go through the shift lever. Tried squeezing it with channel locks but no luck so far.

no ideas? that little pin is all that's stopping me from dropping the tranny! top two bellhousing bolts out, starter out, driveshaft out. always the little things that get you. silly shift lever.

Question Help!

I have this exact problem. The pin's seized in the shifter lever end so there's no way to get the clevis off.
Is it possible to drop the transmission with the lever still on?

I ordered a new pin from the dealer and cut the stuck pin with a sawzall.

Ah sawing was the only option I saw too. Gonna attempt with hand saw and if that doesn't work I guess I'll go buy a sawzall.
Thanks for the reply!

Default Same issue; different purpose?

I think I’m encountering the same issue in my ‘92 240 wagon. Except that I’m wanting to take the shifter off to do the carpet, which feels like a much more shallow issue than these. I’m worried that it’ll be more of a can of worms than it’s worth. I know it’s easy to use a preformed kit but those companies don’t sell enough yardage to do the tailgate pieces and the color and quality aren’t as good. And I want it stretched not seamed.
How much of a messy nightmare am I biting off here?

Manual transmission shifter?

Just take the boot, shift **** and chrome off the shift lever. If you were creating new carpet - just need to punch a small hole where the shifter is sticking up rather than attempt to remove the whole shifter. How are you going to stretch the carpet to fit the trans tunnell?

Thank you! Yes, the more I look, the more certain I am that’s the only way to do it.

And STEAM! Lots and lots of steam to slowly stretch the carpet. It’s too easy to mess it up with a heat gun—at least for me. So I’m going to mess it up some different way that I haven’t factored in yet. :-)

Luckily I have a spare.
