Default '92 240 wont start or disengage from park?

I went to the store and when I came out to restart it there was nothing. No click or anything. All power seems to be there but I couldnt even get it to go into neutral to have a friend tow me. Any input on this would be great.

thanks
rsizzle.

When you say it has power, I'm guessing you mean dash lights? Hmmm, pull the cover (gently) from the shifter boot. Not all the way off, just pivot it sideways out of the way.

As you look down atop the shifter, along the right side of the gear box, there's two Phillip's screws that help hold all that stuff together. Sometimes the screws become loose and the neutral safety switch slips out of alignment. That "switch" is plastic (white) and almost wafer-thin so don't break it. It slides forward and backward through it's mount. As you turn the key to crank the motor, gently slide this piece (backwards, to rear of car), and you should light-off after it reseats itself. You may have to do this often if it won't remain seated, but it's not hard to do.

I have an '88 244 that does the same thing so I leave my shifter cover loose so I can index it when I have to.
I use it as an anti-theft device ....

Good luck

When you say you can't shift into neutral I think you are referring to the shift interlock solenoid that is activated by the brake pedal but can be manually disengaged. Lots of time the solenoid starts to stick.

This is only on the newer 240's.

Measure the voltage on the blue-yellow wire at the starter in the "start" key position, if you see 12V most likely the starter is bad. If you don't see any voltage suspect the neutral safety switch (position) already mentioned or the ignition switch.
