Default 93 240 automatic transmission

I have a '93 240 and I need to rebuild the transmission. Can someone assist me with a source for a rebuild manual for this transmission (AW70L)?

Thanks.

Why re-building? Much easier and cost effective to just find a good used tranny...very inexpensive too. Any 82-93 240 will work just need to swap bell housings on the pre 89 because of the crank angle senser notch on the 89-93 cars. You can even use one out of a 740/760/940...very plentiful and they RARELY go bad.

Default Because

I have rebuilt over 100 automatic transmissions. Ford, GM, Chrysler, VW, etc. This is a car that I plan to keep for a long time and I would rather have a "new" transmission than a "used" one. Besides the cost to rebuild it is considerabley less than the cost of a "used" one of unknown condition.

Thanks.

Want to do mine while you're at it?

Wouldn't mind, but time and distance always seem to be a problem.

What is it with people saying "overdrive too"? Seriously, the overdrive is NOT a separate unit on these autos, it's merely a clutch pack that changes a gear that is in the main gear train.
To make that statement shows a complete lack of knowledge of the transmission and you should reconsider giving out advice on transmissions if you don't know that.

Default I knew that.

I just didn't want to make him feel bad about it. As I stated earlier, I have rebuilt over 100 automatic transmissions. Most of them with overdrive. I just like to have a factory manual in hand whenever possible as most have there own little quirks and special tools needed. I have no doubts that I can rebuild any transmission with or without overdrive.

? Was not meaning more difficult or 2 separate units...I am fully aware that the AW70 or AW70L is one box...plus my advice was to find a good used replacement box because they are plentiful and with proper maintenance last a LONG time and the cost can be about the same as a full rebuild kit...also the Toyota publications are usually a lot more helpful than Volvo...here's some good info in case you need to find parts or literature..Good Luck and have fun!

AW Transmission Parts and Rebuild Information. The AW (Aisin Warner .... Asia's version of Borg Warner) is the most common import tranny out there from Toyota to Isuzu. There are several good service books, better than Volvo's own technical publication. My suggestion is to call either of the two suppliers below and ask for the best novice book they have (Trans Mart will even give you the info to get it yourself if you wish, but Trans Star won't). Read the book cover to cover before touching the tranny. I'd even go so far as to suggest you get the service updates manuals from the same location. If you decide to rebuild your unit, here are the best places in the United States for a transmission kit and parts:

Trans Mart (division of ATC Distributing) phone# 800-633-3340 (they'll give you a number that is closer to you). GREAT customer service
The next best is Trans Star 800-321-8830 (they're a little higher on parts & their customer service is good.)

Thanks for the info, but I am hardly a "novice". As I stated above, I have been doing this for a LONG time.

Just trying to help didn't mean to hurt your EGO..take it easy.

As I stated, I appreciate the info. No ego here. I appreciate all the help I can get. I was just trying to explain that this is NOT my first rodeo. I like rebuilding things as opposed to replacing with used. Now if I could get a new or factory rebuilt at a resonable cost, I would like that as well, but cost and quality control usually lead me to rebuilding my own. I have been rebuilding engines and transmissions for more than 50 years. This is my first Volvo. I guess that IS a little strange.
