Default 93 245 AT - Need help with shifter reassembly

Daughter's car wouldn't start due to a floppy shifter. Turns out the 3 retaining screws were gone from the bottom of the shifter bucket. Quite the pain getting that bucket out and replacing those. I thought the hard part was over, but now I can't reassemble the shifter correctly. The top button stays depressed, I can't move the shifter out of park and the car won't start. I'm doing something wrong and I can't figure out what it is. Would love some help!

a 93 probably has a shift interlock, which is a solenoid that is actuated by the brake pedal, so you can't take it out of P unless your foot is on the brake... there's generally a button or something to override the shift lock, I remember on my 740, I could stick my finger into the rear end of the slot the shifter is in, and lift up on a 'hook' that would release the shifter so I could shift into N or whatever even if the car wasn't switched on.

anyways, your pictures don't really show enough to begin to guess whats wrong. here's the parts catalog diagram of the shifter from a 92, note the solenoid I describe is part #51 (highlighted).

Thanks for the reply. I did a little more fiddling and it seems I have 2 problems:
1. Getting out of park - I see the solenoid and the override lever, however the override lever (which is actuated by a button on the cover) has a cable attached to it that goes directly forward under the console. With the cable attached, it doesn't allow the lever to move enough to over ride. If I disconnect the cable I can override and get it out of park. What is that cable for and what operates it is what I don't understand.
2. No start - I took the neutral switch apart and cleaned the contacts. I reassembled and used a meter, but I get zero volts on the red wire. Shouldn't I be getting 12v at the red wire when the wiper is in the Reverse location?

the park/neutral switch has two seperate functions. one is to light the backup/reverse lights when you're in Reverse, and the other is to disable the starter motor when you're not in Park or Neutral. not sure the wiring colors here, but the starter circuit will only have power when the key is in the III 'start' position. 'Starter' (circuit 50) is often but not always pink wires. The reverse light probably only gets power when the ignition is on, but I dunno what colors that is.
