Default '93/940 - No passing gear

My '93, 940 with over 300k mi. is still chugging along. However, for the last few months I've had to depress my shiftlock override switch from the gear selector console, to shift out of park. Took my car to a general mechanic who fiddled around in the shifter and Voila I can squeeze & shift again. Unfortunately, now I have no passing gear. I can floor the foot feeder at any speed and lower gear never kicks in. I must add that a couple of years back I did have a (ipd overdrive solenoid bypass) plate installed to correct auto shifting but don't think that factors in here. Can my lack of power be a faulty cable or link that can be corrected at a tranny shop Or, is it something more serious?

I appreciate your input.

it sounds like the kickdown cable needs to be inspected/adjusted.
